Hey team!! As we work through the Summer of One Shots, we wanted to share some thoughts on the Role Playing systems we’re trying out! We’ve got a bit of a backlog of games to get our thoughts together on, but I wanted to introduce our system for grading here below:
The DUQS System:

The DUQS System consists of 4 CRITICAL grading criteria for Table Top Roleplaying Games (TTRPGs). The key criteria will answer the following questions:
- Drama: Does the system sufficiently center role-play and create interesting dynamics around it? Does the gameplay create intriguing and interesting opportunities to surprise and delight players?
- Uniqueness: Is this game just another D&D ripoff? If it’s a hack of another game, does it make enough changes to feel interesting and unique? Are the mechanics for combat and/or roleplay new and fun?
- Queerness: Does it actively center queer folks and queer stories? Do its resources ensure consideration for queer folks in their world?
- Setting: How is the setting of the RPG, if applicable? If it’s meant to be setting-less, does it do a good job of encompassing different types of games?
We’ll be giving each of these criteria a 0-5 scoring and providing a list of what we recommend these TTRPGs for!
We’ll be putting out some reviews of TTRPGs we’ve recorded starting this week! I hope you’ll tune in over the following weeks to see our thoughts, and please let us know what you think about our grading system!
